Renowned South African actress Rami Chuene recently celebrated her 50th birthday – a milestone that she describes as a “year of jubilee.”
Chuene took to social media to reflect on her journey, blending gratitude with her signature wit.
The actress described turning 50 as a time of “liberation, restoration, rejoicing, and a fresh start,” drawing inspiration from the biblical concept of jubilee.
“It also represents a time of experiencing God’s grace and mercy,” she wrote. “We are reminded that, despite trials, God’s love and mercy remain ever at work, guiding humanity towards a future of light and reconciliation.”
Chuene didn’t leave humour at the door. She painted a vivid, playful picture of midlife with a wink and a smile.
“Thirty years ago, fifty was so far, so old, so elderly—and today, here we are! E reng gravity mo ngwaneng?” she quipped. “Don’t get me started on those thin but visible lines (wrinkles). What about the nipples being in line with the bellybutton?”
Reflecting on the natural changes that come with age, Chuene offered lighthearted commentary on everything from aching knees to early nights.
“The anticipation of getting home and refusing to go out after 7pm? The way we used to think our parents were dramatic! And yet, I’m loving every second of it,” she said. “Go monaaate maan! I wouldn’t change a thing,” she expressed.
“My heart is full, my spirit is at ease, and my soul is content,” she wrote. “For this 50th birthday, all the ones before, and the ones still to come by God’s grace—I am truly grateful. What a ride, what a life! Hello Fifty.”
