The City of Johannesburg council is set to debate a motion of no confidence against Executive Mayor Dada Morero on Wednesday, 25 June 2025.
This comes after the Democratic Alliance (DA) expressed a lack of faith in Morero’s leadership since he took office last year.
The DA, along with other opposition parties, claims Morero has failed to address basic services in Johannesburg.
Meanwhile, ActionSA has announced that it will refrain from voting in support of the motion. According to the party’s provincial chairperson, Funzi Ngobeni, ActionSA is aware that their decision may lead to ANC retaliation against the ActionSA Speaker, in the motion tabled against her.
Ngobeni emphasised that Morero has failed in his leadership, citing collapsing service delivery, frequent water and electricity outages as well as the city’s deteriorating infrastructure.
“Across Johannesburg, it has become a universal reality that service delivery is collapsing,” he stated. “It has become a universal reality that service delivery is collapsing and institutions like City Power are becoming wholly dysfunctional”.
