Nhlamulo Ndhlela, national spokesperson for the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party, has publicly refuted claims of drug and alcohol abuse made by the party’s former secretary-general, Floyd Shivambu.
The controversy arose after Shivambu, in an interview on eNCA, alleged that Ndhlela was consistently under the influence of drugs and alcohol.
Ndhlela took to X on Tuesday, 24 June 2025, to share a clean drug screening report, accompanied by the hashtag #SayNoToDrugs, in a direct response to Shivambu’s accusations.
In a bid to clear his name, Ndhlela posted an image of a “SCREENING TEST for DRUG CLASSES” report, which indicated “not detected” for various substances.
As we observe #Drug &AlcoholAwarenessWeek, let’s note that abuse is not https://t.co/1KKPmaRPZC’s a scourge that destroys our youth, shatters families, and weakens the very foundation of our society. While the report has garnered significant attention on social media, some users have pointed out a disclaimer on the document stating that a “not detected” result does not definitively rule out the presence of drugs.
Alongside the drug screening results, Ndhlela emphasised a broader message against substance abuse, writing, “Say NO to making light of drug abuse and YES to saving lives.”
