The latest Skeem Saam storyline which saw Mmapitsi cheat on her high school sweetheart and husband Tbose Maputla with DJ Thomas has stirred serious conversation and divided viewers across the country.
The gripping plot twist has kept fans glued to their screens on weekday evenings, with strong opinions flooding social media.
Actress Mogau Motlhatswi, who plays Mmapitsi, and her co-star Tisetso Thoka (DJ Thomas), recently opened up about the aftermath of the storyline, revealing that the public response has been intense and, at times, overwhelming.
“It’s been a lot, but interesting at the same time,” Mogau told Metro.
“The response has been amazing. I’ve got my girls supporting me — they understand Mmapitsi’s struggles. But the men are not happy with her.”
For Thoka, the backlash has been more personal.
“I’m being segregated as a man. A lot of men are hating on me,” he revealed.
“I’m keeping it low-key because it’s been dangerous being out there. I’ve had people tell me they don’t want to see me, and some women even spit on the ground when they see me.”
While the storyline has sparked debate, Mogau made it clear that she does not support her character’s actions.“I don’t condone it. I think it’s bad,” she said.
“I’m actually annoyed with Mmapitsi. I encourage couples to work through their challenges. The drama that comes afterwards… it’s just not worth it.”
