American R&B star Chris Brown has once again found himself facing legal trouble, with his past reportedly catching up to him in the United Kingdom. The singer was arrested in Manchester shortly after arriving in the city via private jet, just weeks before his highly anticipated “Breezy Bowl” tour was set to kick off.
According to reports, Brown, 36, was apprehended by police at the luxurious Lowry Hotel in the early hours of Thursday morning. The arrest stems from allegations of a serious assault that allegedly occurred in London in February 2023.
British entertainment outlet The Sun revealed that the “Residuals” hitmaker is accused of attacking music producer Abe Diaw with a bottle at Tape nightclub, located in London’s upscale Mayfair district.
Diaw has since filed a civil claim against Brown, seeking compensation for injuries sustained and subsequent loss of income.
A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police confirmed the arrest, stating:
“A 36-year-old man was arrested at a hotel in Manchester shortly after 02:00hrs on Thursday, 15 May on suspicion of grievous bodily harm. He has been taken into custody where he remains.”
The spokesperson further elaborated that the arrest is linked to an incident at a venue in Hanover Square on February 19, 2023, with the investigation being handled by detectives from the Central West Area Basic Command Unit.
This development casts a shadow over Brown’s planned UK tour, which was announced last month. The tour, celebrating his 20-year career in music, was scheduled to include performances in major cities such as London, Manchester, Cardiff, Birmingham, Dublin, and Glasgow.
