Partners often engage in subtle acts to bolster each other’s ego. These gestures, while sometimes humorous, often stem from a desire to create a supportive and positive dynamic within the relationship, making the other person feel valued and capable.
A recent conversation on Feel Good with Andy Maqondwana on Things You Have Done To Nurse Your Partner’s Ego sparked a flurry of calls and social media engagement, proving that navigating romantic relationships often involves a delicate dance around self-esteem.
Maqondwana kicked off the discussion with a lighthearted yet thought-provoking question and asked:
“It’s been about a month since the release of a video of a lady called Dr Celiwe, in which her story became viral about being married young and how her relationship with her husband ended with her being in debt, paying for an apartment for her husband, paying for her husband’s car, she didn’t have a car herself, paying R23 000 a month. The most important message she came out with was that all the things she did in the marriage was because she was nursing her partner’s ego. As much as we may judge her story, I think we do it too… I want us to have a conversation a very frank one, on the things you have done to nurse your partner’s ego.”
