South African media personality and entrepreneur Carol Bouwer recently took to Instagram to share a humorous yet personal story about her choice of footwear.
She revealed how an electric bike accident in London led her to swap her Manolos for more practical options.
In her post, Bouwer joked, “I am often asked about my choice of shoe being a wedge (nobody asked, I always just volunteer).”
She went on to recount an incident over a year ago when her son introduced her to electric bikes during a trip to London.
Admitting to being “overconfident,” Bouwer revealed that the experience did not end well. “Suffice it to say it did not end well, and I have not felt steady in Manolos since,” she wrote.
As a result, Bouwer has since embraced wedges, sneakers with a bit of height, or even going barefoot as her preferred choices.
While she occasionally wears heels, she quipped, “it truly is not yet uhuru,” using the Swahili word for “freedom” to suggest she hasn’t fully regained her confidence in towering stilettos.
Fans flooded her comments with well-wishes and laughter.
