South African comedian and actor Ebenhaezer Dibakwane has died.
He was 31 years old.
According to reports, the award-winning Dibakwane died on Friday, 7 March.
His death was confirmed by Tabitha Hoy, his manager at local agency Pickled Ginger.
“We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of celebrated comedian, actor, and writer Ebenhaezer Dibakwane. A friend to so many, he will be remembered for his off-the-wall humour, original style of stand-up comedy and the joy he brought to audiences across South Africa,” Hoy said in a statement posted on social media.
“To know Ebenhaezer was to love him, and he’ll be sorely missed,” Hoy added.

His older brother Lesedi Dibakwane took to Instagram to confirm the news and said, “Our hearts are broken as we announce the untimely passing of Ebenhaezer Dibakwane, beloved son, brother, uncle, friend, and celebrated actor and comedian.”
Dibakwane was born in 1994 and got his big break when he won the Savanna Comics’ Choice Award for Newcomer of the Year in 1996.
He later won a second Savanna Comics’ Choice Award for Intermediate Comedian of The Year.
He was also nominated for two more Comic’s Choice Awards and was nominated for a South African Film and Television Award (SAFTA) for Best Achievement in Scriptwriting.
Dibakwane starred in numerous TV commercials and local movies including Divorced at 50, Real Estate Sisters and the Netflix series Miseducation.
The cause of Dibakwane’s death has not been revealed, however, details for the memorial and funeral services will be communicated in due course.
