Renowned outh African actress Nthati Moshesh recently took to social media to celebrate her son Sabelo’s birthday.
In her touching tribute, the actress wrote, “And just like that, you’re a year older. Happy Birthday, my love.”
She went on to express her wishes for her son, highlighting his unique qualities and the person he has become.
“My wish for you today is… continue being YOU. Authentic. Genuine. Kind. Hardworking. Driven. Loving. A dreamer. Inspired. Goal-oriented and just your beautiful self,” she wrote. “I love you, my love. Thank you for simply being YOU.”
Moshesh also hinted at the exciting future ahead for her son, who is on the brink of embarking on a new chapter beyond university. “The world awaits you,” she added.
Her post was met with an outpour of love and well-wishes from fans and fellow celebrities, who flooded the comments section with birthday messages.
Nthati Moshesh is best known for her leading roles in the drama series Home Affairs (2005–2006) and the soapie 7de Laan (2000–2002).
One of the highlights of her career was her first film shot on location in Zimbabwe, Kini and Adam, which was selected for the official lineup at the 1996 Cannes Film Festival.
In 2000, she took on the lead role in Anant Singh’s film The Long Run, and in 2002, she appeared in Kin, starring alongside Miranda Otto and Isaiah Washington.
Her impressive filmography also includes roles in Beat the Drum (2003), Round Trip (2003), and Cape of Good Hope (2004). In Round Trip, she delivered a standout performance as a Nigerian nanny hired by an Israeli couple, whose character becomes entangled in a lesbian affair with the wife.
In 2004, Moshesh’s talent was recognised internationally when she won a Canadian Gemini Award (the Canadian equivalent of an Emmy) for her role as Odette in Human Cargo. She also received the award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Featured Supporting Role in a Dramatic Program or Mini-Series.
