Springbok captain Siya Kolisi recently took 20-time Grand Slam winner Roger Federer on a tour of a village in Bushbuckridge, Mpumalanga.
Kolisi shared a video of the visit on social media, where he is seen showing Federer around the area. During the tour, Kolisi affectionately gave Federer the nickname ‘MaRogisto.’
Roger Federer, a tennis legend, boasts a unique connection to South Africa through his maternal lineage. His mother, Lynette Durand, was born in Kempton Park, Gauteng.
Although born and raised in Switzerland, Federer holds both Swiss and South African citizenship.
This connection has been evident throughout his career. Federer has publicly expressed his admiration for South African sports, particularly rugby, and has been spotted supporting the Springboks at major events.
Additionally, his philanthropic efforts extend beyond Switzerland, with his foundation supporting educational projects in Southern Africa.
At the 2023 Rugby World Cup final, Federer wore a South Africa jersey and joined the national team in their celebrations following their victory over New Zealand.
