The National Consumer Commission (NCC) announced on Thursday, 4 February 2025 that Volvo Car South Africa is recalling three of its models due to various issues.
According to a media statement posted on X, Volvo notified the NCC about the recalls on Friday, 3 January 2025.
The models being recalled are the XC90 made available for sale on 20 January 2023, the XC 90 made available for sale on 29 October 2024, and the XC40 MY2024 which was made available for sale on 24 January 2024.
Volvo informed the NCC that their investigations identified a potential software failure in the brake control module on the XC90 made available for sale on 20 January 2023.
“In rare cases, this leads to a loss of braking support function,” Volvo told the NCC.
“The XC90 model made for sale on 29 October 2024 is being recalled due to a rod between the brake pedal and brake booster that may not have been assembled according to manufacturing specifications. If the rod detaches, the brake pedal will not work correctly.
“The last model, XC 40 MY2024, has an issue related to the turn indicator system. This, according to Volvo Car South Africa, could ‘in rare cases lead to a temporary loss of the left rear turn indicator function.’,” the statement reads.
Consumers who have these cars have been urged to contact their suppliers.
