Lynn Forbes has taken to Instagram to reflect on what would be her late son, Kiernan ‘AKA’ Forbes’ 37th birthday.
In an emotionally charged post, Lynn recalled the day she gave birth to AKA 37 years ago.
“On this day, at 1:15 in the early morning, I heard your first cry, I felt your warmth as you were placed on my chest. Your natural birth, 37 years ago, left me exhausted yet invigorated.
“I couldn’t take my eyes off you, Counting every tiny toe, every little finger,” Lynn wrote.
She touchingly concluded her post and said, “I can never say “happy heavenly birthday,” For your birthday is an occasion forever etched in my heart. Happy birthday, Kiernan.”
AKA was gunned down outside Wish restaurant on the popular Florida Road strip in Durban. He was killed alongside his longtime friend and manager Tebello ‘Tibz’ Motsoane.
The rapper and Motsoane were walking to their cars when two men approached and shot at them in close range.
Meanwhile, on the 9th of January 2025 the Durban Magistrate’s Court reserved judgment in the bail application of two of the five men accused of the murder of AKA and Motsoane.
Lindukuhle Mkhwanazi, Lindani Ndimande, Siyanda Eddie Myeza, Mziwethemba Gwabeni and Lindokuhle Ndimande were arrested in February 2024 for their alleged involvement in the assassination of AKA and Motsoane.
Of the five men, brothers Lindani Ndimande and Lindokuhle Ndimande were found liable to be extradited from eSwatini in August 2024 and a written judgment was handed down and served in September 2024.
AKA left an indelible mark in the South African hip-hop industry. He started his music career as a part of rap group Entity before he went solo and went on to win numerous awards locally and internationally.
