A nine-year-old boy who had been abducted for four days in Laudium, Tshwane, was rescued on Friday by Gauteng police and private security firms.
Five individuals between the ages of 24 and 37 who are citizens of Pakistan and Afghanistan were taken into custody.
On Monday, the suspects are anticipated to appear in the Atteridgeville Magistrate’s Court. The boy, whose parents are from Afghanistan, was forcefully taken from the house of the father’s friend in Laudium on Tuesday.
The kidnapped child was discovered and two additional suspects were taken into custody after the suspects led the police to a home in Danville, Pretoria.
In addition to having an unlicensed firearm in their possession, the suspects were found to be in the country illegally. After more investigation, the fifth suspect—whom the family knows—was taken into custody.
Following his observation at a medical facility, the boy was reunited with his family. Charges against the suspects include kidnapping and illegal gun and ammunition possession.
The parents received a call from the suspects requesting a ransom.
“A team comprising of South African Police Service and private security companies was established to rescue the boy and find the suspects. The team worked tirelessly and made a breakthrough on Friday when they found the vehicle that was used during the kidnapping and arrested two suspects,” said the police in a statement.
