Orlando Pirates Football Club has expressed serious concern over what it describes as a ‘growing trend of misinformation’ circulating on social media and in certain media outlets regarding alleged transfer offers for some of its players.
In an official statement, the Soweto giants highlighted the persistence and escalation of these ‘unsubstantiated claims,’ stating that the situation now requires them to set the record straight.
The club clarified that the rumours began with a “fabricated story” about Monnapule Saleng, alleging that the player had been denied a lucrative transfer opportunity to a team in the Middle East.
“Initially, we chose to disregard this as yet another false narrative attempting to explain the player’s temporary absence from the squad. However, the story has since gained unwarranted traction, even being reported by some mainstream media outlets,” the club said.
Orlando Pirates categorically denied ever receiving any transfer offer from a Middle Eastern club for Monnapule Saleng.
The statement also addressed another rumour involving Patrick Maswanganyi, claiming that a Portuguese club was reportedly preparing a bid worth R40 million for the player.
“It is deeply troubling that these baseless stories are not only misleading but also serve to disrupt the focus of our players and destabilise the team. This is entirely unacceptable,” the club stated.
The team reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining professionalism and transparency, urging media outlets and the public to verify facts before spreading such claims.
