Limpopo Premier Dr Phophi Ramathuba has announced that a suspect has been arrested in connection with the rape of two nurses at a clinic in Limpopo.
This follows the robbery, kidnapping and sexual assault of two female nurses at Chuene Clinic in Thokgwaneng Village, Ga-Chuene, on the morning of Friday, 10 January 2025.
Speaking at a media briefing on Sunday, Dr Ramathuba revealed that the 27-year-old was arrested by at his residence in Feke Village in Ga-Maja.
“I’m pleased to report that, through the dedicated efforts of our multidisciplinary law enforcement team, a suspect linked to this heinous crime has been arrested. Acting on credible information, the team swiftly moved to Ga-Maja, where they apprehended a 27-year-old male suspect at his residence,” said Ramathuba.
The South African Police Service (SAPS) also recovered a gun and other items linking the suspect to over 10 multiple serious and violent crimes in the area.
“During the arrest, the team recovered a 9mm pistol, which had been reportedly stolen in a previous house robbery involving a female police officer attached to the Lebowakgomo Police Station. The suspect is also linked to several other serious crimes, including a business robbery at Thokgwaneng Clinic, a house robbery and attempted murder in Ga-Molepo and various other robberies and sexual assaults.
“In total, the suspect is linked to over 10 serious and violent cases within the Lebowakgomo policing area. During the arrest, the police recovered items such as the stolen firearm, live ammunition, laptops, cellphones, cash, and other valuables,” the SAPS said in a statement.
The suspect is set to appear at the Polokwane Magistrate Court on Monday, 20 January 2025.
