On Wednesday, November 27, 2024, an intelligence-driven operation in Rietfontein, Gauteng, resulted in the discovery of a covert drug laboratory valued at an estimated R100 million.
A 39-year-old Mexican national connected to the facility was arrested as a result of the operation.
The discovery came after law enforcement conducted a thorough surveillance of the area. To secure a search and seizure warrant, a multidisciplinary team comprising the West Rand K9 Unit, Diepsloot and West Rand Tactical Response Teams (TRT), National Counter Narcotics, and National and Provincial Organized Crime Investigations (Narcotics units) worked together.
Police raided the property and found a large amount of methamphetamine, often known as Crystal Meth or Tik, along with a variety of ingredients and equipment used in drug manufacturing.
