The Gauteng Department of Education’s online school application system has faced significant technical issues this year, causing frustration among parents trying to secure school placements for their children in Grades 1 and 8.
The system, designed to streamline the application process, has encountered various problems, including “failed” or “error” messages and difficulties in tracking application statuses. Some parents have even reported instances of their children being placed in non-existent schools or their registrations not being reflected in the system.
Gauteng Education MEC Matome Chiloane recently joined Drive 959 to address these concerns and provide guidance to parents.
Key Points for Parents:
- Limit Applications: Parents are advised to apply to a maximum of five schools.
- Utilize the Home Option: Consider using the “Home” option to apply to schools within your home address’s feeder zone.
- Document Submission: Submit required documents to all applied schools within seven days. Alternatively, upload documents to one school for other schools to access.
- Seek Assistance: Visit Decentralised Walk-in Centres for in-person support from 08:00 to 16:00.
