South Africa’s inflation rate fell for the fourth consecutive month in September, dropping to 3.8% from 4.4% in August, according to Statistics South Africa statistics issued on Wednesday.
The consumer price index (CPI) measures the change in prices of a basket of goods and services that are typically purchased by specific groups of households.
This is the lowest level since April 2021. In September, the CPI rose 0.1% month on month.
According to the data, the primary positive contributors to the 3.8% annual inflation rate were rises in housing and utilities (4.8%), miscellaneous products and services (6.9%), food and non-alcoholic beverages (4.7%), and alcoholic beverages and tobacco (4.7%).
