Ike Phaahla, the spokesperson for South African National Parks (SANparks), verified the escape, saying the elephants exploited the river, which is currently low owing to the season, to get out of the park. Kruger National Park, a famous tourist attraction near the Mozambique border, is one of Africa’s largest wildlife reserves.
“As soon as the situation is under control, they will attempt again to get the elephants back into the park,” Ike Phaahla, the spokesperson for South African National Parks (SANparks)
Initially, park officials attempted to escort the elephants back with a helicopter. However, the endeavor was hampered by the presence of a large gathering of community people who impeded the elephants’ passage, making the situation more risky.
