A shootout between Western Cape police and suspects led to the deaths of four suspects with four others injured.
The South African Police Service (SAPS) confirmed the shootout between a task team and alleged extortionists in Milnerton took place on Thursday evening, 29 August in Milnerton.
Police were acting on intelligence relating to wanted alleged extortionists which led to the shootout between police and and the suspects.
According to SAPS, the 8 suspects who were driving in a minibus were allegedly on their way to commit a mass shooting.
Reports indicate as police followed the vehicle with suspects they came under fire from the occupants of the vehicle which led to police shooting back.
As a result, four suspects were shot dead and four others were seriously wounded. The wounded suspects all from Cape Town aged 23, 30, 34 and 38 are under police guard in a medical facility.
Five firearms and multiple rounds of ammunition were seized from the vehicle the suspects were travelling in.
An investigation is underway and further details are expected to emerge.
