Actress Hellen Bright, known for her role as Melita Monama in the popular SABC 1 drama Skeem Saam, has taken her character to new heights.
Melita has always been seen as a homewrecker by fans of Skeem Saam, and just when she thought things were looking up, she faced a lot of backlash.
After Mr. Kgomo divorced his wife, Ivy, Melita and Mr. Kgomo rekindled their relationship following their affair. However, the people of Turfloop have expressed dissatisfaction with their romance.
To make matters worse, an old enemy of Melita has returned seeking revenge.
Hellen Bright recently took to social media to ask Skeem Saam viewers to give her relationship with Mr. Kgomo a chance.
Last year, an elderly fan of Skeem Saam took the current storyline where Melita has lured Mr Kgomo into abandoning his family in the literal sense. The actress told Sowetan that a woman in her 60s attacked her while she was doing her shopping..
“She hit me in the heel with a trolley. When I looked at her, she said, ‘I did it purposely because you are stealing other women’s husbands. I swear if you do that to my husband, I will deal with you.’ It was only then that it hit me that she thought I was Melita.”
In another incident, a woman who had asked for a picture told Bright not to “steal her husband.” The actress was taken aback by this.
“My heart just sank because I noticed that she was seeing my TV character. But in general people love and have embraced the character. Others ask me to say Melita’s favourite lines like ‘captain my captain’ and serope mperekele‘ (thigh do the job for me – of seducing men),” the actress was quoted by Sowetan.
