The ongoing strike by Gautrain employees affiliated with NUMSA began at the Maintenance Workshop Depot of the rail service in Midrand.
The management of the Bombela Operating Company (BOC), which runs the Gautrain, received a 48-hour notice to strike from the National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (NUMSA).

Gautrain CEO Tshepo Kgobe joined Point of View to respond to the NUMSA strike and expressed that they are determined to resolve the strike so that employees can return to work.

According to NUMSA, they have held two rounds of wage talks since the start of the negotiations on April 17. We reached an impasse with the employer on June 11th, which was the date their most recent meeting.
The Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA) requested that the National Union of Mineworkers (Numsa) participate in a conciliation procedure with Gautrain. Numsa has acknowledged that it has accepted the request.
Among other things, the union is requesting a revised 9% hike and guaranteed incentives. According to Phakamile Hlubi-Majola, National Spokesperson for Numsa, they have been amenable to cooperation.
