DA MP Renaldo Gouws is under fire over videos he posted in 2008 and 2009.
Since June 16, 2024, when the petition calling for Gouws’ removal from the National Assembly started, more than 40,000 people have signed it.
In a video that is being wildly shared on social media, he responds to Julius Malema, the head of the EFF, and his party’s usage of the song “Kill the Boer”. He further goes on to say that white people in South Africa are going through reverse apartheid.

The petition’s creator, Kimberly Jones, expressed her discomfort with Gouws’s racially charged comments and language on Sunday.
“The recent videos of Gouws circulating on social media, where he spews racial remarks against people of colour, are a stark reminder of how quickly we can regress if such behaviour is left unchecked.
“To enable successful governance in a diverse democratic society it is essential that all MPs adhere to principles of respect, understanding and equality. The harmful and divisive discourse propagated by Gouws not only stymies our progress but can potentially inspire others in the wrong direction,”
