The African National Congress (ANC) says the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party is not responding to their invite regarding coalition talks.
In a media briefing at Luthuli House in Johannesburg on Wednesday, 05 June, ANC Spokesperson Mahlengi Bhenku said the MK Party remains mum despite the ANC reaching out to them on more than one occasion.
Efforts to finalize co-government meetings to iron out the way forward for the country have hit a snag after the MK Party, which has Jacob Zuma at the helm are not cooperating.
So far the ANC have had engagements with delegations from the IFP, the EFF, the DA, the NFP and the PA.
The ANC has also engaged with its alliance partners, SACP, Cosatu, and Sanc as part of the consultation process.
Coalition discussions have been required after the ANC failed to secure a majority in the 2024 National and Provincial elections for the first time in 30-years.
Bhenku says the current situation has created some uncertainty but the ANC hopes to make a decision regarding a coalition by the weekend.
“The ANC has repeatedly reached out to the MK Party for an engagement meeting with no positive response. Our door remains open as we continue to reach out to every party that is keen to contribute positively to moving our country forward.”
The ANC National Executive Committee NEC) is meeting from tomorrow, Thursday, 06 June to discuss three options around the formation of a new government.
