Caster Semenya’s life has inspired millions of people around the world.
Although she faced a lot of judgement and prejudice, she still managed to shine and become a global star.
To celebrate the life of this young champ, award-winning author Dr Nokuthula Mazibuko Msimang has penned down a children’s book in her honour.
The name of the book is ‘Qhawe! Mokgadi Caster Semenya’.
It tells a story of Semenya from childhood to how she fell in-love with sport and became a star.

Semenya was born on 7 January 1991 in Limpopo and was raised by her grandmother.
Despite growing up in a rural area and all the challenges she faced, Semenya went on to become a world champion.
She is a 2016 Olympic gold medalist. On 16 April 2016, Semenya became the first person to win all three of the 400m, 800m, and 1,500m titles at the South African National Championships.

Msimang has written five novellas: ‘In the Fast Lane’, ‘A Mozambican Summer’, ‘Freedom Song’, ‘Spring Offensive’, and ‘Love Songs for Nheti’.
She is the recipient of the 2003 Bessie Head Fellowship.
