A Sassa office in Mpumalanga had to be closed after CCTV footage showed a sangoma allegedly practicing “witchcraft” by scattering muti on coworkers’ desks.
The incident was recorded on April 12, showing the men moving between cubicles while sprinkling ‘a liquid’.
According to the Sowetan, Two officials from the office have now been suspended for performing the ritual in the office, where needles were also found lying around. Another man was observed carrying what looked to be a snake at the same moment.

According to the SASSA spokesperson in Mpumalanga Senzeni Ngubeni, the two officials involved have since been suspended pending investigations.
“We have found out that two of our officials were involved in the incident. As it stands, they have been suspended. Investigation into their conduct is underway. We have arranged with the municipality to use the community hall while we clean and fumigate the office. Members of the public have been informed to use the community hall,”
A social media user @ayandayandiet_ shared a video detailing the incident, she added the offices have been closed for the second week.
“The local SASSA offices in Mkhondo in Mpumalanga have been closed for a second week amid allegations of a witchcraft incident that was caught on camera. The manager allegedly invited sangomas to perform rituals, leaving officials traumatized and refusing to return to work.”
