“The Thin Red Line” is a 1998 adaptation of James Jones’ autobiographical 1962 novel, focusing on the conflict at Guadalcanal during the second World War.
The film stars John Cusack, Sean Penn, and George Clooney and follows the story of the 1st Battalion brought to Guadalcanal as troops try to seize the island from the Japanese.
Their task is to capture the hill at all costs and the story is one of redemption and meaningless war.
Directed by Terrence Malick, who has a reputation for being an eccentric director, the film is a better adaptation of the novel it’s based on.
The film received a 4-star rating on Rotten Tomatoes and the battle scenes themselves are worthy of praise for the sheer ingenuity of the combat.
Give this a go if you’re stumped for things to watch this weekend.
