Authorities in the United States have ordered Google to disclose the personal information of viewers of certain YouTube videos due to an unidentified individual’s engagement with the content. This is according to an article published by Forbes.
Agents who were undercover were in conversation with someone using the online pseudonym “elonmuskwhm.” They asked Google for the personal information of everyone who had watched the videos during a certain time. Around 30,000 people watched the videos during that period.
The information included the names, addresses, telephone numbers, and user activity of all the people who viewed the content.
The editor of MyBroadband (which has also carried the story), Jan Vermeulen, joined Sizwe Dhlomo to discuss these kinds of incidents in general. They touched on the implications of leaving a digital trail when browsing the internet.
