A listener recently shared a dilemma with The Best T in the City with Tbose. He met his girlfriend when she was pregnant, and since the biological father was not in the picture, he stepped up to take care of the child.
Now, the girlfriend’s family believes he is the father and is demanding damages. However, he is not sure if he should pay since he is not the biological father.
“Uncle T, when I met my girlfriend two years ago, she was honest and said that she was three months pregnant. I loved her at first sight, and since the baby daddy vanished, I had to step in.
“Both our families think the child is mine, and now her father is adamant that I need to pay damages. My girlfriend keeps coming up with excuses for her family, but her father won’t back down.
“Would it be wrong if I didn’t pay, since I am not the biological father? I am already doing so much, and I feel like telling the father the truth so that he backs off. Will I be wrong? I just don’t like his tone and demands. Yes, I see the child as mine, and I plan on marrying my girlfriend in a year or so. Wouldn’t that be taken care of, damage and all, when I pay Lobola? What could be my blind spot?”
One listener suggests that the girlfriend should be honest with her dad and show more gratitude towards her boyfriend, who has taken on a more active role.
Another listener mentions that since Anonymous plans to pay lobola, he could also consider lobola-ing the child, as he has expressed his willingness to take on the responsibilities of a father.
