Lira was awarded a special award by the Consulate General of India.
South African singer, Lira is celebrating her first awards since she suffered a stroke.
The award, which honors women who have excelled in their particular disciplines, was presented by the Indian Consulate General at a function on International Women’s Day.
While in Germany on April 19, 2022, Lira experienced a stroke that left her unable to speak. Since then, the Afro-pop singer has made a few appearances and shared with her fans her experience of getting well.
Lira took to Instagram to express gratitude for the award.
“And then I went to accept this award at the event by the Consulate General of India , Manesh Kumar on International Women’s Day. The event was to commemorate women who have shown outstanding achievements in their specific fields. It was the first award I received since having a stroke. Then I gave a speech 👌🏾❤️.
God is so good 🙏🏾👌🏾”

Lira also shared images from her attendance at the ninth annual Forbes Women Africa Leading Summit. Speaking at the event she described how she didn’t realize she had had a stroke, which was why she was suddenly “trapped in her own body… unable to speak,” until she saw a doctor 24 hours later.
Lira riveted the audience with her narrative of what happened after she was told, at the age of 43, that she had to relearn how to speak, read, and write.

At the annual RMB Starlight Classics in September 2023, Lira made her stage debut and was met with a standing ovation from the audience. She had been spotted by the evening’s host, Katlego Maboe, and had been performing Miriam Makeba’s hit song Ntjilo Ntjilo with singers Sunnyboy Dladla and Masabane Rangwanasha.
