Pravin Gordhan is set to retire after the 29th May election.
After this year’s May elections, Pravin Gordhan, the minister of public enterprises, will not be reappointed to the cabinet.
Pravin Gordhan, the minister of public enterprises, announced on Friday that he will retire following this year’s general elections on May 29.
In a statement released by the Department of Public Enterprise they stated that his announcement is intended to set in motion processes to ensure a smooth transition.
This announcement that the Minister intends to retire from active politics following the upcoming elections is emblematic of the Minister’s desire to be candid so that all critical constituencies that relate to his current portfolio are sufficiently informed of his plans.
Secondly, the announcement is intended to set in motion processes to ensure a smooth transition for the Minister and the Department as it is often the case at the end of every administration.

He is a veteran of the anti-apartheid movement who has been involved in politics since the country’s founding and was once the finance minister. Trained as a pharmacist, Gordhan entered politics in the 1960s. He actively participated in the ANC underground and was a key player in the democratic movement to overthrow apartheid.
