On Thursday afternoon, news broke that French footballer and Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba had been handed a four-year ban from football following a positive doping test.
In response to the verdict, Pogba took to social media to express his disagreement, stating that he believed the decision was “incorrect.”
Expressing his deep dismay, Pogba shared, “I am sad, shocked, and heartbroken that everything I have built in my professional playing career has been taken away from me.”
The player emphasised his innocence, asserting, “When I am free of legal restrictions, the full story will become clear, but I have never knowingly or deliberately taken any supplements that violate anti-doping regulations.”
The 31-year-old stressed that as a professional athlete, he would “never do anything to enhance his performance by using banned substances and has never disrespected or cheated fellow athletes and supporters of any of the teams I have played for or against.”
Concluding his statement, Pogba disclosed his intention to appeal the decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
