“Smile you are on camera!” – Lesufi says 6000 new face recognition CCTVs are to be installed in Gauteng.
The Gauteng Provincial Government (GPG) and Vumacam have announced a partnership that will grant the province access to Vumacam’s vast camera network and cutting-edge crime-fighting technologies.
Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi confirmed the news in a post on X (formerly known as Twitter), saying this new partnership will be instrumental in the fight against crime.

Vumacam has asserted that the agreement will give the province instant access to a vast network of more than 6,000 cameras in Gauteng as well as partner cameras across the country.
“In addition to the extensive network already available within Gauteng, Vumacam also has access to another 5,000 partner cameras across South Africa, which would ensure any known vehicle involved in a criminal activity in another province would trigger an immediate alert if seen by the cameras within Gauteng,”
