Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture Zizi Kodwa has applauded Bafana Bafana on fighting like warriors at the 2023 Afcon semi finals.
On Wednesday night, 07 February Bafana Bafana’s efforts against Nigeria did not go unnoticed, and despite the team’s exit from the contest, the Minister believes a strong foundation has been set for the next World Cup.
Addressing the team Kodwa echoed coach Hugo Broos’ sentiments of immense pride in the national team, despite losing to Nigeria 4 – 2 on penalties.
“I think you’ve laid the foundation for us, we’re proud of you as a country, and we are looking forward to welcoming you, and indeed we will welcome you, the President will welcome you in a way that we always welcome our national teams.
You are our heroes. You really fought like warriors, but like I say, the game of football is round, anything can happen, it’s about chances.
You’ve done well, but I want to thank you for the sacrifices you have made on behalf of the country.”
A number of South Africans share the same sentiments as Minister Kodwa, and the national team received massive support in the 2023 Afcon competition.

Hugo Broos remains the right man for the job… He must be allowed to cook and take Bafana Bafana to the FIFA World Cup. Him and the technical team did the most and made us believe on our national team once again. pic.twitter.com/JgZIeurwLh
