Rise Mzansi Leader Songezo Zibi unpacks the party’s manifesto.
As South Africans prepare to head to the polls for the 2024 general elections, every Monday Point of View with Phemelo Motene profiles political parties and unpacks their manifestos.
This week Phemelo is joined in the studio by Rise Mzansi Leader Songezo Zibi.
Listen to the full conversation here:
At the Heartfelt Arena in Pretoria on Saturday, Songezo Zibi, the party’s leader, addressed the group and said, “Rise Mzansi has a bold vision to build a new society founded on the values of freedom, equality, justice, solidarity, and integrity,”
An end to corruption, crime, and inequality was one of the main promises made to South Africans in the Rise Mzansi manifesto before the 2024 elections. Other important promises included jobs, education, land, food, subsidies, border security, and more.
On Rise Mzansi’s prospects in the upcoming election
“I think people are warming up to us, also because of how we have chosen to do politics. That is to ditch the jargon, and we don’t talk about Marxism, we have normal conversations with people about the situation with their children, whether young or old, the situation in the community, and thins that they talk about with their relatives, and what keep them awake at night.”
On unemployment
“What we have tried to avoid in the manifesto is to claim that we will create an X number of jobs because the government naturally doesn’t create jobs themselves. We need to recognize that the job creators are ordinary people. From spaza shops to side hustles, homeowners with kids who hire helpers, etc. The big question is how the government creates an environment where jobs can be created.”
