The University of Cape Town has suspended all classes for Monday and Tuesday.
This follows a blaze which broke out at the institution which damaged at least three buildings.
This means that no classes, tutorial, lab work or tests will take place.
This will allow the university a chance to assess the situation.
Emergency accommodation arranged for students
Meanwhile, UCT is arranging emergency accommodation for students evacuated from residences.
“We are, of course, deeply concerned about the impact that these unforeseen circumstances have had on students and staff who had to be evacuated, said UCT spokesperson, Elijah Moholola,
Cause of fire investigated
Officials believe the fire was started by a vagrant, but there are also concerns that the blaze could be the result of arson.
A man was reportedly taken into custody on Sunday night in the Devil’s Peak area.
He was allegedly spotted by a resident who apprehended him with the help of his sons and the family’s dogs.
Police are investigating.
