Eskom announces stage 3 load-shedding from Friday 16:00.
Eskom has announced that Stage 3 loadshedding will be implemented from 16:00 on Friday with Stages 3 and 4 loadshedding being implemented over the weekend.
Although Eskom was working on a solution to lessen their severity, on Wednesday, Minister of Energy Kgosientsho Ramokgopa warned that the nation will continue to experience rotating power outages in the medium term.
During the first nine days of 2024, South Africa had three days with a full supply of electricity, but Eskom soon started rotating power outages again.

Eskom said that this is due to further setbacks resulting in the shutdown of six generating units,
“Stage 3 loadshedding will be implemented at 16:00 on Friday afternoon. This will be followed by Stage 3 loadshedding from 05:00 on Saturday until 16:00 when Stage 4 loadshedding will be implemented. This pattern of Stage 3 loadshedding from 05:00 to 16:00 and Stage 4 loadshedding from 16:00 to 05:00 will continue until Sunday when Eskom will share a further update for the week ahead.
Eskom will closely monitor the power system and communicate any changes should it be required. Unplanned outages are currently at 15 561MW of generating capacity, while the capacity out of service for planned maintenance is 7 828MW.
Eskom Power Station General Managers and their teams are working tirelessly to ensure that 1 960MW of generating capacity is returned to service by Monday evening. Eskom’s load forecast for the evening peak demand for Friday is 25 169MW.”
