Police have arrested 4 more suspects for the Soshanguve New Years shooting which claimed the lives of 4 people.
An intelligence driven operation by the Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation team based in Pretoria and the Hawks Tactical Operations Management Section worked tirelessly to bring 3 males and one female to book on Saturday, 06 January.
The suspects will appear at Soshanguve Magistrate`s court on Tuesday 9 January 2024 on charges of murder and possession of unlicensed firearms.
This brings the total number of suspects arrested in connection with the mass shooting incident to 6.
The first two suspects Sipho Kgomo and Tshepo Mosemeni are expected to make a second appearance in court on 12 January after their first appearance last week.
Police say 3 firearms, an AK-47 and two pistols were confiscated upon the 4 suspects’ arrests.
The incident occurred shortly after the clock struck midnight to usher in the New Year, when gunmen opened fire on 3 stationary vehicles in Soshanguve, killing 4 people instantly.
One of the victims was an off-duty police officer, 29-year old Constable Mpho Kgobotlo, and 14-year old Vuyolwethu Ziwela.
Vuyolwethu was killed after she stepped out of her home to greet her uncle outside, who was amongst the victims.
