‘This is copyright infringement’ – Nigerian artist accused of stealing ‘Hamba Wena’ by Deep London.
Social media has been abuzz since an obviously copied version of a popular Amapiano song by South African artist Deep London was remade by Nigerian artists.
Soon after Nigerian musicians Smada and Poco Lee released a music video for their new song “Smada Eh,” which featured a fairly obvious and conspicuous interpolation of “Hamba Wena,” South Africans quickly filled the comments section with criticism.
Undoubtedly, the genre originated in South Africa; nonetheless, Nigerians are claiming credit for taking the sound global.
The dispute erupted again on Thursday when South African music producer Deep London filed a lawsuit against Nigerian musician Smada for using a sample of the popular song Hamba Wena.
First video is Boohle's Amapiano song which South Africans are accusing Smada of stealing, while the second video is Smada and poco lee song. Listen to both, is there any similarity? pic.twitter.com/rDRuhh5oP5
