Who would you trust to deactivate your social media accounts in the event of your death?
This was the question Thomas and Skhumba asked listeners, and while most said there isn’t a single person in the world they would trust with their social media login details, it may surprise you to know that there are ways around this.
That’s right, when someone dies, a family member who wishes to gain access to their deceased loved one’s social media account, without having the password, will just need to contact the social media site to gain accesss.
Sorry for Skhumba who says he will die with the passwords to his accounts and take them to his grave.
When someone dies, there are 3 options for managing their social media or online footprint.
The 3 options to manage online accounts in the event of death include:
- Memorialise the account
- Delete the account
- Leave the account open i.e dormant
But, before you make that decision, it would be wise to check if the deceased person left any instructions in their will or requested someone other than you to deal with this.
