Dumi Mkokstad, is a 32-year-old passionate gospel musician and minister from Cabazana, Eastern Cape. Raised in a devout Christian family, he grew up singing in the church alongside his siblings Thandi, Nontsindiso, and Sphiwe under the guidance of his parents, Falithenjwa and Dudu Nzimande, who are both pastors at Power of God Assemblies.
Dumi Mkokstad’s musical journey began when he was discovered by a producer while ministering at a funeral. He released his first album at the age of 10 in the year 2000, marking the start of a prolific career. Moving to Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu Natal, he completed his matric at Minerva High School and briefly pursued a diploma in accounting at the University of Johannesburg before his music career took precedence.
Throughout his career, Dumi Mkokstad has released 12 albums, with his most recent, “The Overflow, Gwala Kimi,” gaining widespread acclaim and being named Album of the Week by Apple Music. His success is highlighted by a series of sold-out album launch events in Durban and East London, demonstrating his enduring popularity.
In 2023, Dumi Mkokstad celebrates 23 years in the music industry, making him the youngest South African musician with over two decades of experience. Amid his illustrious career, he has earned numerous awards, including Song of the Year, Classic of All Time, and Best Male, showcasing his versatility and talent in the gospel genre.
DumiMkokstad’s influence extends beyond his solo career; he has collaborated with renowned artists like Vusi Nova and Blaq Diamond. Additionally, he has contributed as a presenter on Dumisa TV’s “Amacilongo” and served as a composer and songwriter for various gospel musicians, including Hlengiwe Mhlaba, Thina Zungu, Betusile, Spirit of Praise, and Dr. Rebecca Malope.
Beyond the stage and studio, DumiMkokstad is a visionary entrepreneur who discovered and nurtured talents under his recording company, Shammah Records, located in Durban, KwaZulu Natal. Some of the artists signed with his company include Sindi Ntombela, Nathi Sithole, and Nomini Nyawose.
In his personal life, DumiMkokstad finds joy in playing soccer and participating in various tournaments and leagues. He is happily married to Dr. Ziphoze Nkosi Nzimande, and the couple recently welcomed their beautiful daughter, Lenan’izulu, and a son, Neyame. DumiMkokstad continues to inspire and uplift through his music, ministry, and commitment to developing new talents in the gospel music industry.
