Tshwaku said that the tactical response unit was something that had to be established a long time ago.
“There’s never been a crime prevention unit by the way, the JMPD’s mandate has always been as traffic law enforcement and we are supposed to have a crime prevention and combative unit.”
He said that the crime prevention and combating unit will focus on recovering illegal firearms, explosives, and illegal mining equipment, as well as human trafficking.
He added the unit has been well received and many of the JMPD officers are looking forward to putting their boots on the ground.
“The unit has been received very well we had a session today, and some of the guys are very excited. They have actually been looking for this unit, many times when they drive around some of them really don’t enjoy writing tickets. They want to combat crime, they want to keep their streets safe.”
