“I became a superstar because of Idols” – Somizi reflects on his 9 years with Idols SA.
Somizi Mhlongo who joined Idols SA in 2015 in the eleventh season of the talent competition has talked candidly about his nine years as a judge on the show.
It was a very emotional evening when the show concluded its final season after 18 years of nurturing musical stars sadly reached the end of its road on Sunday.
A new singing competition show is in the works and will be launched at some point in the upcoming year, according to Mzansi Magic.

Using social media, Somizi posted a video in which he discussed his incredible experience working on the show.
“It was a non-toxic environment”
He gave an account of how working on Idols SA was a thrilling experience where everyone who worked there was happy.
“My Journey on South African Idols when I started 9 years ago… I can boldly stand on a mountain and say Idols is the only place I have worked for 9 years, and I can boldly say it was a non-toxic environment,”
“That place was heaven. I had the best experience in a working environment in that place. From the crew, I have never seen a place where everyone is not happy to be there. From the guys who do my mic, the ladies who do the makeup, and everyone else. From the drivers to the security to the producers, to everybody guys, that environment was amazing,” said Somizi
“I became a superstar because of Idols SA”
He also shared how is star became even brighter because of Idols SA.
“I was famous when I joined Idols, I was a star but I became a superstar because of Idols. I’ll give them that credit. They took my brand and stardom to another level. And today I am still running with it. I don’t think I would be as great or as big as I am if it wasn’t for Idols SA.” said Somizi
