Gauteng police say EFF MP Dr Mbuyiseni Ndlozi is not a suspect in a rape case recently opened by a woman.
Police management is distancing itself from reports that accuse Ndlozi of raping a woman in the north of Johannesburg.
According to an article by the Daily Sun, a woman claims Ndlozi raped her at a party in Sandton.
Police confirmed a case of rape was opened.
However, Brigadier Mathapelo Peters says Ndlozi is not under investigation.
“While police are not at liberty to disclose or confirm the identity of victims or complainants and suspects, we can further confirm that Dr Ndlozi is not a suspect in this case.
“Police hereby place it on record that the reporter behind this article in reference has not sought the comment of the Gauteng provincial head of corporate communications on this matter.”
A case of mistaken identity
Ndlozi told the Daily Sun in a recent interview that he did not know the woman.
“It’s a terrible instance of mistaken identity,” the EFF MP said.
Meanwhile, the EFF has welcomed the police confirmation that Ndlozi is not a suspect.
The party says it will be taking legal action against Daily Sun.
