MTN will pump R30 million into the SA Rugby Growth Fund following the Springboks’ historic Rugby World Cup win.
Charles Molapisi, CEO at MTN SA, joins Gugulethu Mfuphi on Kaya Biz to make the announcement, revealing that the principal sponsor of the Boks will inject R10 million a year over the next 3-years into the fund.
MTN has been a proud sponsor of the Boks since 2017, and Molapisi says the contribution will help ensure the next generation of SA Rugby players meet the calibre of a world-class team.
“This win meant so much, not just to the team, not just to MTN, but to the nation.
At MTN, we are excited about the Boks’ story of transformation, this team is hailed as the best Springbok team in history.
If you think about that, and you think about this level of transformation, you have to applaud the coaches, the technical staff, every single individual who were key to the success of this team.
So, we want this work to continue, we don’t want this work to stop, and we understand that it takes resources.
This is why MTN is backing the SA Rugby Growth Fund, because we are saying, take this money and go and find more Siya Kolisis’.”
Molapisi said MTN’s longstanding sponsorship of the Boks has been instrumental in driving significant social change over the years, touching the lives of South Africans from all walks of life.
The R30 million contribution towards the SA Rugby Growth Fund will help SA Rugby ensure the next Siya Kolisi is nurtured and developed through the rugby ranks.
