34 workers have been suspended at the Gold One mine.
The miners who allegedly kidnapped 500 of their coworkers underground in the East Rand last week—at least 34 of them—have been suspended.
After more than 500 workers went underground for three days last Sunday through Wednesday, Gold One is taking the axe.
Point of view with Phemelo Motene spoke to Ziyaad Hassam, head of legal at Gold One Mine who detailed what led to the suspension of the 34 mine workers.

The miners were suspended on Tuesday and Wednesday, and they will be subject to internal disciplinary actions starting early next week.
Hassam stated that video evidence and eyewitness accounts from workers underground were used to make the suspensions.
“Following the incident that happened last week, we have done several things, one of which was to do a thorough review of the events that happened, with the view of taking lessons from whatever transpired last week. Through that process, we also reviewed video footage of what happened on the ground as well as on the surface. We were able to identify a number of employees who were in breach of both our code of conduct as well as an interdict from the labour court which prevented any industrial action.” said Hassam,
