Heartbreaks are tough on anyone, even if you’re Lupita Nyong’o, as the Oscar-winning actress has admitted to struggling to come to terms with her recent breakup with Selema Masekela.
Lupita who shared her pain in an emotional Instagram post on 19 October, said the suggestion to adopt a cat during this difficult time came from a friend.
Despite being terrified of cats most of her life, the end of her relationship with the 52-year-old American TV host and sports commentator, saw Lupita embracing change and new possibilities.
The 40-year-old Kenyan actress is well and truly in her “cat lady era” after she adopted a ginger tomcat named Yoyo.
“Introducing my new companion, Yoyo!
I have historically been afraid of cats, but when my life was altered instantly recently, a little voice whispered to me that it was time to embrace change and new possibilities.
So, a dear friend (shoutout Palmer Hefferan) held my hand through the process and took me to visit my first animal shelters.
I fostered Yoyo from Best Friends Adoption Center, and 3-days into it, I knew I could not give him up.
What I have learned about him already:He loves company
He loves his food
He is extremely careful and rarely drops things
He is picky about his wand toys
He only drinks running water
The bugs in the house don’t stand a chance
He can’t be trusted around supplements”
The Black Panther actress is now one of those people whose camera roll is full of photos and videos of their pet. Lupita says although it looks like she saved Yoyo, he actually saved her.
