After the Springboks’ remarkable 29-28 victory against the World Cup hosts, France, on their own turf, Mzansi has been showering the players with praise for their unwavering determination and hard work.
Somizi Mhlongo took to social media to express his admiration for Springbok winger Cheslin Kolbe following his outstanding performance on Sunday evening.
“My MCM, my hero of the night!” Somizi raved about the player. “What you did here can never be undone. If you didn’t do what you did, we would be talking about a different story right now.”
Somizi also made sure to acknowledge the efforts of the entire team, not taking their contributions for granted.
“Of course, the entire team fought a fight worth celebrating. I’m naming a holiday after you. A street after you, and even myself after you. Thanks for serving us croissants last night. Next week, we are having an English breakfast at night.”
Speaking post-game on Sunday, Springbok captain Siya Kolisi revealed that he knew it would take something special to beat host nation France.
“We worked together as a team and we talked a lot about never giving up. We knew it would take something special and we did it today,” said Kolisi.
“France asked a lot of questions of us, but the character we showed stood out. We had a clear plan on what we needed to do, especially at the breakdown, and we had to fight for one another, especially in the last eight minutes of the yellow card. I’m proud of the guys and the discipline they showed.”
The Springboks will face England in the last four on Saturday, while Argentina and New Zealand will meet in the first semi-final on Friday.
