The suspects involved in a cash-in-transit (CIT) heist on South Rand Road in the Hill on Thursday, 21 September are still at large.
According to the Southern Courier both G4S guards were unharmed, although the suspects used explosives to gain entry into the CIT van.
Steve Dwarika, owner of Guardian Angel Security said the armed suspects opened fire on the G4S van at about 15h00 on Thursday.
“Six to eight suspects forced the guards out of the vehicle and disarmed them before detonating explosives to gain access to the cash in the safe.
The white Audi triggered a camera at 15h01 on South Rand Road heading towards the R59 and the Mercedes Benz a few seconds before it.”
An undisclosed amount of money was taken before the suspects fled the scene in their vehicles.
The heist took place near an apartment block and the blast from the explosives left a few apartments with shattered windows.
An investigation is reportedly underway.
