Bala attended the Drakensberg Boys’ Choir School in the KwaZulu-Natal town of Winterton before enrolling in St. Stithians College in 1994.
At Berklee College of Music in Boston, he then obtained an online Master’s Certificate in Orchestration for Film and Television. He first gained popularity in 1997 when he joined the Kwaito group TKZee.
